Surrounded by his teammates, Vingegaard reached the finish line safe and sound. After today, the Team Visma | Lease a Bike leader's victory tally came to seven.

"I have to say it once again: the guys did a brilliant job to keep me out of trouble," responded a content Vingegaard. "It was real racing in pursuit of the leading group, so it was important to stay focused. It ended up being another tough day, but we were able to defend the jersey with verve."

Afterwards, the Dane received the trident trophy for the first time in his career. "I am very happy with the trophy. After all, it is one of the most iconic trophies you can win in cycling. I look forward to giving it a nice place in my house soon. The overall victory in Tirreno - Adriatico belongs in the list of my most beautiful victories."
