Strong Nordhagen triumphs in final stage of Giro Next Gen
Jørgen Nordhagen has claimed victory in the eighth stage of the Giro Next Gen. The 20-year-old Norwegian, who normally rides for the WorldTour squad of Team Visma | Lease a Bike, completed a fine team effort by the development team of the Dutch formation in Pinerolo.
The final stage of the Giro Next Gen — often referred to as the Baby Giro — started and finished in Pinerolo. The opening part of the course was flat, but the second half featured several sharp Italian climbs.
As the stage progressed, Team Visma | Lease a Bike Development took control of the race. After Tim Rex completely emptied himself on the second climb in support of Nordhagen, the Norwegian decided to raise the pace once more. Only Jakob Omrzel was able to follow, but Nordhagen eventually out-sprinted him to secure the stage win.
“The Giro has been a success”, Nordhagen said enthusiastically. “Today we had a really good day. From the start, we wanted to take control. The guys protected me all day. Our plan was to go all-in on the second climb. After strong work by Tim and the others, I gave everything I had. I’m incredibly proud to be part of this team. In the final, my cooperation with my breakaway companion went well — he was fighting for the overall, and I was fighting for the stage win. I’m extremely happy with this victory. I gave it my all to get this win, so it means a lot to me. This Giro was one of my main goals for the season.”

Already gaining WorldTour experience on a regular basis, Nordhagen also finished fourth in the general classification. “The races I do at WorldTour level are giving me a lot of valuable experience. It really makes me stronger as a rider. Together with the team, we keep looking for the best possible race schedule for me. I feel completely at home here and I’m happy I was able to reward that trust with a stage win in the final stage of the Giro Next Gen”, the young Norwegian beamed.
