Team Jumbo-Visma excels in teamwork in Ronde van Drenthe

Team Jumbo-Visma’s collective solid performance in the Ronde van Drenthe was rewarded with the Cobbles Prize for Romy Kasper and the VAM Mountain Prize for Riejanne Markus.

The riders had to ride 155 kilometres, with four climbs up the notorious VAM mountain and 16 kilometres of cobbled roads.

Team Jumbo-Visma was at the front of the race all the time, but the peloton remained closed for a long time. Ten kilometres before the finish the group was decimated. Four riders managed to escape, including Anouska Koster. She tried to escape twice, but it was to no avail. The chasers reached the front group and a group sprint followed. Van den Bos finished ninth and was the first rider of Team Jumbo-Visma.

“We rode an excellent race as a team”, sports director Carmen Small said. “The girls rode aggressively. They managed to get in the breakaways and be in the front so Romy could compete for the prizes in the cobbled sprints. Riejanne was the best on the VAM mountain and Anouska showed to be strong at the end with some breakaway attempts. The balance is, therefore, positive. This is a good starting position for the coming weeks.”
