Looking back at two Walloon races

Last week was dominated by Walloon races. On Wednesday 20 April, our riders rode La Flèche Wallone and conquered, among other things, the infamous Wall of Huy. On Sunday 24 April they started the last spring classic of this year: Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Both races took place under a radiant spring sun. Let's have a look back.

La Flêche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège (men)

The highest Team Jumbo-Visma classification in La Flêche Wallonne was for Tiesj Benoot; he was eleventh. In the final ascent on the Wall of Huy, Benoot rode up with the strongest, but a final sprint was not decided in his favor.

Wout van Aert made his debut in Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Van Aert finished third after an exciting final sprint and – despite the fact that he would have liked to have been on the highest podium – was satisfied.

La Flêche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège (women)

The riders of Team Jumbo-Visma started with a decimated team in la Flêche Wallonne, but the three (Anouska Koster, Aafke Soet and Amber Kraak) fought back bravely. Koster in particular showed herself well from the front on the Ardennes roads. Fifteen hundred meters before the finish she was caught. The end result was a fourteenth place.

Koster was again strong in Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Thanks to a lead-out from Anna Henderson, she was able to show herself in the final sprint. She also finished fourteenth here.
