Ferrand-Prévot secures second place in the Tour of Flanders

Pauline Ferrand-Prévot has secured a podium finish in the Tour of Flanders for the second year in a row. After a gruelling 164-kilometre race, the Team Visma | Lease a Bike leader crossed the line in second place. Demi Vollering cruised to victory.

In the 23rd edition of the Flemish classic, the riders faced nine climbs and six cobbled sections. As expected, the race came alive on the Eikenberg, where a significant separation took place. Ferrand-Prévot and Nooijen were part of a select group that entered the final stretch.

On the Oude Kwaremont, the penultimate climb of the day, Vollering launched a blistering attack. The Dutch rider slowly but surely pulled away from Ferrand-Prévot and Puck Pieterse, who set off in pursuit together. The pair worked well together, but were unable to catch Vollering.

In a two-way sprint, Ferrand-Prévot secured her second place. "I can be satisfied with this second place. The team and I did everything we could to win, but I simply wasn’t strong enough to follow Demi. I can’t blame myself for anything. This was the best possible result for today."

For Ferrand-Prévot, the Tour of Flanders was her first race since Strade Bianche four weeks ago. "I feel good, but I think I’m still lacking a bit of race rhythm. I’ve just returned from a high-altitude training camp where I did a lot of long climbs. In a race like this, I notice that I'm just a little less explosive."
