De Vries seventh after strong finale in fourth stage of Tour of Britain
Femke de Vries once again showed her strong form. The 32-year-old rider positioned herself well in the group of favourites during a tough finale before sprinting to seventh place.
The fourth stage of the Tour of Britain featured a relatively calm opening phase. Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women positioned themselves near the front of the peloton before shifting their focus towards the finale, which featured a few short but testing climbs.
The race opened up in the tricky finale, with De Vries staying alert. The Dutchwoman, who sits fifth in the general classification, positioned herself strongly in the group of favourites. Lorena Wiebes sprinted to victory, while De Vries crossed the line in seventh. The Dutchwoman therefore maintains her strong position in the general classification.
"I still managed to put in a good sprint in the end, so I’m happy with how today went"
“My teammates supported me really well throughout the day,” De Vries said afterwards. “In the finale, I managed to position myself in the group of favourites and I tried to jump away from there, but unfortunately without success. I still managed to put in a good sprint in the end, so I’m happy with how today went.”
Tomorrow sees the final stage of the Tour of Britain, with a potential sprint opportunity awaiting the team. “It would be nice if we could go for the sprint with Nienke tomorrow, but there are still two tough climbs in the finale. It would be great if we can control the race and help Nienke get into a position to sprint,” De Vries concluded.
