“I’m extremely happy with our performance this week,” Davide Piganzoli said after the challenging final stage. The last stage of the five-day race in Luxembourg started in Mersch and finished in the capital. Piganzoli began the stage with a 47-second lead over his closest rival, Mattéo Vercher.  

After the start, Van der Poel went solo. The Dutchman built a maximum lead of more than five minutes over the peloton, where overall leader Piganzoli was consistently well supported by his teammates. When the race entered the local circuits in Limpertsberg, Van der Poel still had a substantial advantage. He ultimately completed his solo ride successfully. Behind him, the battle for the remaining podium places unfolded.  

On the short, steep finishing climb, Piganzoli reacted quickly to an acceleration from Pepijn Reinderink. The Italian then sprinted to fourth place in a reduced peloton. His lead in the general classification was never under threat. Following his time trial victory on Saturday, Piganzoli secured the overall win.  

“The team rode a fantastic race,” Piganzoli said. “We were perfectly positioned in the peloton all day. During the opening hour, we let the breakaway go. The riders in the break did not pose a threat to us with the overall standings in mind. Our goal today was to win the overall classification, and we achieved that. We were less focused on winning the stage. Mathieu rode a phenomenal stage. He absolutely deserved the victory. We can look back on a successful week here. I also want to thank my teammates for all their hard work.”  

Piganzoli’s overall victory brings Team Visma | Lease a Bike’s season win total to 49. For Piganzoli, it was his fourth victory in the team’s yellow-and-black colors.
