Team Jumbo-Visma not involved in battle for day's victory Tour de Suisse

Team Jumbo-Visma did not manage to get a place of honour in the fourth stage of the Tour de Suisse. Daryl Impey won the final sprint of a reduced peloton.

From a sweltering Grenchen, the riders set off eastwards towards Brunnen for a 190-kilometre stage. Three riders soon formed the day's breakaway and got a five-minute lead. The peloton kept the margin within limits and caught the trio at the foot of the Sattel, fifteen kilometres from the finish line.

On this categorised climb, the peloton was cut in half. Team Jumbo-Visma's Sam Oomen, Sepp Kuss and Pascal Eenkhoorn were part of the front group, although the latter only returned at 2.5 km from the end, and the chance to go for a day's success was virtually gone.

"We tried to go for a good result with Pascal, but it was too difficult. Pascal was dropped just before the summit and returned just before the end but did not have the chance to improve his position. He still has the Giro in his legs, so riding at the front was not self-evident", sports director Marc Reef said.

Nevertheless, Reef was delighted with his team's performance. "We tried to position Pascal, Sepp and Sam as well as possible towards the final climb. Sepp and Sam in particular made a good impression uphill. That is promising for the coming days. Our main goal is to keep Sepp and Sam up front in the coming stages."
