Veenhoven sprints to third place in fifth stage Simac Ladies Tour

Nienke Veenhoven sprinted to third place in the fifth stage of the Simac Ladies Tour. The 20-year-old rider from Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women was again able to compete with the best sprinters in the bunch sprint, but ultimately had to acknowledge her superiority to Lorena Wiebes, who won the stage.

Despite several attack attempts, it took a long time for a breakaway to form. After 65 kilometers, one rider took the lead. She created a lead of more than two minutes but was caught fifteen kilometers before the finish by the chasing peloton, in which the riders of the yellow-black formation showed themselves several times in front. Veenhoven then sprinted to a great third place in the streets of Doetinchem.

“It was a super nice race,” Veenhoven says, looking back with a happy feeling. “We made the course with the team from 85 kilometers before the finish by attacking alternately. The bunch sprint was therefore not well organized, which was to our advantage. I was dropped well by my teammates, which allowed me to sprint to a nice third place.”

"When I see how the riders put themselves down as a team today, I am very proud of that"

Rutger Tijssen

Sports director Rutger Tijssen also looks back on today with a happy feeling. “In the first part, little happened, and it was mainly waiting until the hilly zone. As a team, we rode very well and attacked, which disrupted the race and allowed us and Nienke to sprint and compete for a good classification. When I see how the riders put themselves down as a team today, I am very proud of that.”
