Katharina Sadnik crowned Austrian National Champion after strong finale
Katharina Sadnik has been crowned Austrian National Road Champion after a smart and determined race. The Austrian rider bridged across to race leader Christina Schweinberger on the third lap before coming out on top in a thrilling sprint to claim the national title.
The race got off to a nervous start, with numerous attacks in the opening laps. While several riders tried to break away, Sadnik stayed patient and stuck to her plan of saving energy for the finale.
The key moment of the race came on the third lap when Sadnik bridged across to the leading Christina Schweinberger. The two riders joined forces and built a decisive advantage over the chasing group heading into the final kilometers.
"It was a nervous start. There were a lot of attacks, but I kept telling myself that I needed to save my energy for the finale. I did a lot of homework on my competitors, so I knew where the key moments of the race would be," Sadnik said afterward.
In the closing moments, the race came down to a two-up sprint. Sadnik kept her composure and launched her sprint at exactly the right time to secure the Austrian national title.
"I just went all out. I had nothing left to lose."
"In the final seconds before the finish, all I could hear was the crowd cheering. I just went all out. I had nothing left to lose."
For Sadnik, the national title marks a special milestone in her career, especially in her first season with the team.
"I'm feeling so much joy. After all the nerves, the hard work, and the effort, this is such a special moment. It's also my first year with the team and my first year focusing on road racing, so I'm incredibly happy that I was able to achieve this."
With her victory, Katharina Sadnik earns the right to wear the Austrian national champion's jersey for the next year, a fitting reward for a perfectly executed race.
