No harm for Team Visma | Lease a Bike in hectic third stage Itzulia Basque Country

The third stage of Itzulia Basque Country went well for Team Visma | Lease a Bike. In a stage filled with six Basque hills, the Dutch team stayed away from the hectic that gripped the race in the final dozens of kilometers. Jonas Vingegaard is still in fifth place in the general classification.

The day began with a setback for Team Visma | Lease a Bike. Ben Tulett did not get on his bike. The young Brit didn't feel entirely fit over the past few days and was forced to stop on day three.

During the stage the black and yellow team was always in the front of the peloton. There was no general classification duel during the race, but that didn't mean that the men with ambitions for the final ranking stayed out of trouble. The final phase of the stage was marred by several crashes, with Primoz Roglic and Juan Ayuso among the victims. The riders of Team Visma | Lease a Bike all passed the finish line safely in the end. In the streets of Altsasu, Belgian Quinten Hermans eventually sprinted to the day's victory.

"This was a very hectic day," sports director Frans Maassen afterwards. "That day started in a minor way for us because Ben was unable to start. We are definitely going to feel that loss in the remainder of this race. In the end we can congratulate ourselves on getting through the day. With all the crashes, we can consider ourselves lucky to have reached the finish line unscathed. So we end this stage with a good feeling and as a team we are looking forward to tomorrow's day."
