Vos sprints to second place in third stage of La Vuelta Femenina

Marianne Vos just missed out on her second stage victory in La Vuelta Femenina. The rider of Team Visma | Lease a Bike only had to acknowledge her superiority to her compatriot Femke Gerritse in the streets of Huesca. Thanks to the bonification seconds Vos moved up to second place in the general classification.

The almost flat 132 kilometer stage was very much in the hands of the sprinters. The wind seemed to interfere with the final of the stage for a while, but did not prove strong enough to create big differences. Vos, who was the fastest in the first bunch sprint, was brought to the front by Imogen Wolff in the final kilometers. From Gerritse's wheel, Vos launched her sprint, but the 37-year-old rider couldn't get past.

“Of course you always want more, but Femke was the fastest today,” Vos said. "After yesterday, we knew it would be another hectic day. There was occasional crosswind, but it wasn't enough to form echelons. Still, it was important to stay attentive and be at the front with the team. That was our main task. Shortly after the intermediate sprint we tried to cause some chaos, but we didn't manage to force a gap."

"Given the profile of the stage, it will be a tricky finale tomorrow."

Vos, who will once again start in the green jersey tomorrow, finds it difficult to predict the chances for tomorrow. "It can go either way. Maybe it's a stage for a breakaway or maybe the classification women will try something. Given the profile of the stage, it will be a tricky finale anyway."
