Van Agt narrowly misses out on victory in final stage of Volta a Catalunya

Eva van Agt came within a whisker of stage victory on the final day of the Volta a Catalunya Femenina. The Dutch rider of Team Visma | Lease a Bike had to settle for second place in the streets of Barcelona, just behind fellow countrywoman Loes Adegeest.

The result capped off a successful edition of the Catalan stage race for Team Visma | Lease a Bike. The team claimed podium finishes in two of the three stages, placed three riders in the overall top ten—Marion Bunel in third, Femke de Vries in fifth and Viktória Chladoňová in ninth—and took home the white jersey for best young rider thanks to Bunel.

"Unfortunately, I just came up short in the final metres to pass Loes"

Eva van Agt

Looking back on the final stage, Van Agt reflected on a day full of teamwork and ambition. “The priority today was to secure Marion’s third place in the GC. After that, we wanted to go for the stage win, ideally from a breakaway. Mijntje Geurts and Rosita Reijnhout were really alert and worked hard to cover moves. They even launched some attacks themselves. As expected, it all came down to a bunch sprint. I was able to save my legs throughout the day for that. Femke delivered a fantastic lead-out—late, but the timing turned out to be spot on. Unfortunately, I just came up short in the final metres to pass Loes. I’m really grateful to the team for this opportunity and look back on the past three days with a great feeling. I think that goes for the whole team”, Van Agt concluded.
