Eighth place for Ferrand-Prévot after tough finale in Tour de France Femmes opener

Eighth place for Ferrand-Prévot after tough finale in Tour de France Femmes opener

Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women made their presence felt in the opening stage of the Tour de France Femmes. Marianne Vos and Pauline Ferrand-Prévot remained in contention for the victory deep into the tough finale, but Lorena Wiebes proved to be by far the strongest in the sprint.

In the opening stage of the Tour de France Femmes, which took place on Swiss soil, attention quickly turned to the finale, with the finish at the top of the Côte Saint-François. As the decisive climb of the day approached, Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women remained active at the front of the peloton.

The pace increased significantly on the final climb. Vos and Ferrand-Prévot managed to stay with the strongest riders for a long time, but eventually had to let several riders finish ahead of them. Ferrand-Prévot crossed the finish line in eighth place.

"As a team, we put in a strong performance today"

“As a team, we put in a strong performance today,” Ferrand-Prévot reflected afterwards. “It was nice to be racing again. We had a good plan to be in contention for the victory in the finale, but unfortunately, we came up short. Still, I look back on today with a positive feeling.”

Vos also looked back positively on the team’s performance. “As a team, we rode a good race. The finale was extremely tough and the team put me in a good position, but there were simply a few riders who were stronger today.”
