Sixth place for Zingle at the Grand Prix du Morbihan
Axel Zingle sprinted to sixth place at the Grand Prix du Morbihan. Team Visma | Lease a Bike was prominently present at the front throughout the race, after which the Frenchman secured a solid top result in the sprint. Benoît Cosnefroy ultimately proved to be the strongest.
In the French one-day race, three riders launched an early breakaway. On the hilly course, where the Côte de Cadoudal serves as the decisive climb, the leaders built up a significant advantage. However, the escapees did not play a major role in the battle for victory.
In the finale, the black-and-yellow squad once again featured prominently at the front. The peloton split up several times, but in the end a large group entered the final kilometer together. In the streets of Plumelec, Zingle then sprinted to a strong sixth place.
"We rode a strong final and our condition is excellent, but we had hoped for more."
“There was more in it today,” said sports director Robert Wagner afterwards. “It was a very controlled race, which was unfortunate for us. We rode a strong final and our condition is excellent, but we had hoped for more. Sixth place for Axel is not bad, but we would have liked to be closer to the win.”
Tomorrow the team will get another opportunity, as Tro-Bro Léon is on the program. “Tomorrow will be an extremely tough race, with many gravel sectors and the expected weather conditions. It will be a battle from start to finish. We will do everything we can to fight for the win,” Wagner concluded.
