Strong Van Dam sprints to sixth place in fourth stage of La Vuelta Femenina

Sarah Van Dam finished in sixth place in the fourth stage of La Vuelta Femenina. The 24-year-old Canadian once again managed to contest the sprint, confirming her strong form.

The fourth stage of La Vuelta Femenina took the peloton from Monforte de Lemos to Antas de Ulla. The riders covered 115 kilometers over rolling terrain. The stage included the Alto de Oural early on, followed by a second climb later, before a slightly uphill finish. This led to a sprint from a reduced group, in which Lotte Kopecky proved to be the fastest.

"I felt good again, so I’m already looking forward to the upcoming stages."

With a powerful sprint, Van Dam ultimately finished sixth. In the general classification, she remains in the top five. Reflecting afterward, the Canadian said: “Early in the race, many riders tried to get into the breakaway, but nothing succeeded. Eventually, everything came back together and we prepared for a bunch sprint. Unfortunately, I wasn’t well positioned today to compete for the win. I felt good again, so I’m already looking forward to the upcoming stages.”

Pauline Ferrand-Prévot finished eleventh and moved up to ninth place in the general classification. Another challenging stage awaits tomorrow. “Today went smoothly for the team,” said sports director Jos van Emden. “Our plan was to be in the breakaway, but unfortunately we didn’t manage that. Sarah showed herself again in the finale, and Pauline also made a strong impression. We’re in a good position heading into the final weekend.”
