Vos reclaims yellow jersey after second place in stage 3 of the Tour de France Femmes

After spending a day in green, Marianne Vos is back in yellow. In the third stage of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, the 38-year-old Dutch rider sprinted to second place behind Lorena Wiebes, thanks to a strong effort by her Team Visma | Lease a Bike teammates.

The stage, which featured a flat profile, passed largely without major incidents until the tense final kilometres. A major crash occurred three kilometres from the finish, but Vos and her teammates were positioned at the front and avoided the chaos.

Femke de Vries took the lead in what remained of the peloton, drastically reduced by the crash. She delivered Vos perfectly for the sprint. For a moment, Vos looked like she might overtake Wiebes, but the European champion proved too strong. With six bonus seconds for her second place, Vos reclaimed the yellow jersey she had lost to Kimberley Le Court the day before. Pauline Ferrand-Prévot remains third overall.

“The finale was pretty chaotic”, Vos said after the stage. “There was a big crash. First and foremost, I hope everyone involved is okay and can continue the race. You know a finish like this will be fast and risky. Luckily, we stayed out of trouble as a team.”

She also looked back on the final sprint. “I was in a good position, thanks to some great teamwork. But I never really came out of Lorena’s slipstream. She was simply the strongest today. It’s a great feeling to be back in yellow. It’s such a beautiful jersey, and I’m proud to wear it again”, concluded the new GC leader.
