The second stage on Swiss soil featured five categorised climbs. Five riders formed the breakaway of the day and built up a maximum advantage of three minutes. On the final climb, with just under 50 kilometers remaining, the last escapees were reeled in.

That was the moment for Riejanne Markus to launch her attack. The Lidl-Trek rider spent a long time out in front on her own and was only caught in the final few hundred metres. In the sprint that followed, Wiebes once again proved to be the strongest. The yellow jersey wearer beat Balsamo and Vos to take her second consecutive stage victory.

"It was a tough stage," Vos reflected afterwards. "Especially the final 25 kilometers were really hard, but the pace was already high through the hilly section before that. What Riejanne did was really impressive. In the final kilometer, Pauline moved me into a good position, after which I surfed from wheel to wheel. It was pretty chaotic, but that's part of sprinting. Lorena was clearly the strongest today."

Sports director Jos van Emden looked back on the second stage in Switzerland with satisfaction. "I saw a very strong team today. Daniek and Lieke did exactly what we asked of them, and they executed it really well. Marion also deserves a special mention. She was the first rider to crest the toughest climb of the day, showing that she's in great form. Marianne also delivered a strong sprint. All in all, I saw plenty of positives today."
