Kuss fights his way to podium finish in tough Andorra MoraBanc Clàssica, Tulett fifth

Sepp Kuss has finished third in the Andorra MoraBanc Clàssica. Together with teammate Ben Tulett, the 31-year-old American from Team Visma | Lease a Bike shaped the grueling finale. A solo attack by Kuss in the closing kilometers was ultimately neutralized. The victory went to Tom Pidcock.

The Andorran one-day race was held for the second time. Team Visma | Lease a Bike could count on several riders who had competed in La Route d’Occitanie in recent days: Tijmen Graat, Tim Rex, Axel Zingle, and Loe van Belle. The selection was completed by Ben Tulett, Jørgen Nordhagen and Sepp Kuss, who lives and trains in Andorra.

From the start in Andorra la Vella, the race immediately headed uphill. The riders faced four categorized climbs, totaling more than 4,000 meters of elevation gain. The finish was located at the summit of the Coll de la Botella. After the start, a breakaway of fifteen riders formed.

Before reaching the foot of the Coll de la Botella, all the breakaway riders were caught by the reduced peloton. Julien Bernard then tried his luck with a solo attack, but his move was also brought back. A small group of favorites, including Kuss and Tulett, began the steep final kilometers.

In those final kilometers, Kuss made his move. He accelerated strongly, but Chris Harper, Pidcock’s teammate, brought the American back. After a tactical battle, Pidcock proved to be the strongest. The Brit defeated Carlos Verona in the sprint. A few seconds later, Kuss crossed the finish line in third place. Tulett capped off a strong performance with fifth place.

"I live and train in Andorra, so it was special to ride this race"

“I’m satisfied with this performance,” Kuss said afterwards. “It was a tough race, so it feels good to take a podium spot. We rode strongly as a team, but in the end Tom was the strongest in the finale. I really enjoyed being able to race here. I live and train in Andorra, so it was special to ride this race. My family was along the roadside, and that gave me extra motivation.”
